Brainstorm #1

The summer before my Sophomore year of high school I took an art class with a teacher who was soon to become my favorite throughout all my years of schooling so far. She had us make a zine using magazine scraps, watercolor, fabrics and anything else we could find around the classroom and I loved it. I ended up making a zine based on my grandpas lake house where I was lucky enough to live for a few years. I used watercolor paint to illustrate his garage along cutout of a car from a magazine. I added the fireworks over the lake on the 4th of July and so much more that I remember from that home. All the art I create has something to do with me and my life, its all a reflection of my inner self. My zine that summer was about my family and the memories at the lake because at that point in my life I was grieving my mother and how her death affected me. Today I would say the thing/emotional response that has the biggest impact on my life is my wonderful girlfriend who's 1000 miles away at a different college. She's my other half, we've been together for 3 years and I can't help but miss her so much whenever we have to separate.

So what I'm thinking for this zine is not necessarily a collage of us but more so a documentation of my feelings along with the things that I do on a day to day to keep myself sane. Now, Ive done something like this before purely on Illustrator and I don't want to repeat the same thing, so the focus is going to be on me this time rather than her. I want it to be a medium size so I'm thinking 5.5" x 8.5". I also want to use alottttt of colors along with ephemera. I enjoy collecting little random pieces of print that I think I can scan and include in this.

SO overall, this is a zine of me and the things I am doing and loving here in Boulder that is keeping me connected to myself and the person I love while being so far. That includes making my morning tea, doing my skincare routine, going on walks and seeing the beautiful houses up the street from my sorority house and many more mundane things that I genuinely enjoy.
